I have been an opal miner for many years, but old age has forced me out of the ground and into the role of opal buyer.
Most of my mining has been in the Andamooka fields in South Australias dry heartland.
I have tried many things in my life time. I ran away with a circus when I was 13 years old, I was a drover (trail herder), Stockman (cowboy), Rodeo Cowboy, Truck driver, Colt breaker, Police Officer, Sherifff's Officer, Bouncer in a hotel, Chief of backstage security at an entertainment venue. (and of course an opal gouger) Quite often holding down two jobs at once.
I am a certificated opal cutter and enjoy working with them. I have now reached that happy time of life when making money isnt so important to me as making friends and meeting people. Now days I tend to give or trade my opals rather than sell them.
I have two working sheepdogs who keep me company when I go bush.
I spend an hour a day at the gym working out.
I have had a very varied lifestyle and wouldn't change a minute of it if I had to do it all over again.
